Many have written that your physician does not believe you have a chronic viral infection. If a doctor does not test for specific viruses like HHV-6 and Epstein Barr when you have viral symptoms, and they tell you nothing is wrong with you without these tests - it is as mystifying and unprofessional as grading you on your Math ability by asking you vocabulary questions.  If they do not order the correct test, why would they have more credibilty than your own personal experience of these viral symptoms?

If you had just broken your leg and the doctor was standing in front of the X-ray machine and did not X-ray your leg, but told you that there is nothing wrong with you, would you limp on out of that hospital or would you request the proper test in order to make that conclusion?

I am very sorry to hear that in addition to fighting these symptoms, there are so many people who are not getting the support and testing that they deserve.

 

If you have symptoms of a viral infection and your doctor does not test for a viral infection, calmly move on and find another doctor who will.

I believe there is a subset of patients with Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS) who have a disease caused by a virus.

In 1985 I had viral meningitis, HHV-6, mononucleosis (Epstein Barr Virus) and chicken pox (Varicella Zoster Virus) all at the same time.  My immune system has never been the same.  I have been in studies conducted by Georgetown University Hospital and prescribed everything from interferon injections to anti-virals to 300 out of 365 days of antibiotics.  I have had viral neuritis, viral arthritis and viral sick-of-swollen-glands-every-day-itis.  My body has been fighting chronic viral infections for the last 25 years and I think I may have done the impossible.

HHV-6 is found in peripheral blood where Natural Killer cells are found.  Is the HHV-6 virus depleted if the number of natural killer cells increases?
